Guatemala Rio Azul
Guatemala Rio Azul
All 272 members of the Rio Azul farmer cooperative are from the Mayan group Jacaltec, commonly referred to as the Popti people. And about 20% of the farm owners are women.
All members live within a 1.5-hour walk to the wet mill where they bring their coffee cherries for pulping. The farms they work are on average about two acres.
We’ve been buying coffee from them since 2006 and feel it’s one of the best coffees from the famed Huehuetenango growing region. This co-op is named after the turquoise-colored river that flows through the community.
Taste notes of caramel, apple and cinnamon. This coffee has a distinctive and delicious citrus note on the back end.
